A man in his 60s was seriously injured and had to be flown to the hospital after he was hit by a vehicle in a neighborhood in McHenry, police said.

The McHenry Police Department and McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 5:17 p.m. Friday to the 3400 block of Fairway Drive for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

McHenry Police Department Public Affairs Officer Ashley O’Herron said officers found a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle.

An initial investigation showed the vehicle, driven by a woman in her 40s, was traveling on Fairway Drive east of Green Street.

A pedestrian, a man in his 60s, was crossing the street and was struck by the vehicle, O’Herron said.

The driver of the vehicle reported she did not see the pedestrian in the roadway.

Paramedics transported the victim to the helipad at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.

A LifeNet helicopter then flew the man to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

O’Herron said the victim suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and his condition has been stabilized in the hospital.

The McHenry County Regional Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT) responded to conduct an investigation.

There were no indications of the driver being under the influence.

O’Herron said it is unknown if there will be any charges filed as the investigation remains ongoing.
