A masked suspect pointed a gun at a victim’s head and then pistol-whipped him after the victim confronted suspects who were burglarizing his car in Lindenhurst Tuesday evening.

The Lindenhurst Police Department responded around 10:14 p.m. Tuesday to multiple reports of in-progress burglaries to vehicles in a subdivision west of Rolling Ridge Lane and Beck Road.

It was reported there were multiple offenders entering unlocked vehicles in the 60 block of Brook Lane, 2200 block of Sprucewood Lane and 2200 block of Rolling Ridge Lane.

Lindenhurst Police Chief Thomas Jones said the offenders were described as black males in their late teens or early 20s wearing hoodies, masks and gloves.

A vehicle owner confronted a suspect on his property and the offender pointed a handgun at his head.

Jones said the offender then struck the victim in the face with the handgun and fled the scene with the other suspects.

A surveillance video released showed one of the suspects involved in the incidents.

The Lindenhurst Police Department requested assistance from surrounding police agencies.

A canine unit from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded as did officers from the Lake Villa and Antioch police departments.

The suspects were not located and the investigation remains ongoing, Jones said.

The police department said residents should remove valuables from their vehicles, notify police of suspicious activity, lock their cars, park in well-lit areas and always close car doors and windows.

“A car burglar loves to see items that can be grabbed easily and carried away without much effort,” Jones said. “Please do not confront these individuals. You can even call and remain anonymous.”

The Lindenhurst Police Department said they are seeking to identify all suspects involved and are encouraging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact them at 847-356-5400.
