Fire officials say a firefighter was transported to the hospital and a resident was evaluated after a brush fire burned two acres south of Wauconda Thursday afternoon.

The Wauconda Fire District responded around 1:10 p.m. Thursday to the 24600 block of Indian Trail Road in unincorporated Barrington for a report of a brush fire.

Wauconda Fire District Battalion Chief Jason Daun said crews received a report of a grass fire that got out of control.

Daun said it was learned the resident was burning material in a barrel.

The wind picked up and a piece of debris started the grass on fire behind the home.

Fire crews arrived and found approximately an acre on fire.

They worked for approximately 20 minutes to get the fire, which burned two acres, under control, Daun said.

3,000 gallons of water were used and two injuries were reported.

Paramedics transported a firefighter to a local hospital for an evaluation and he was later released, Daun said.

A resident of the property was also injured but declined medical transport to the hospital.

The Lake Zurich Fire District assisted Wauconda at the scene and the Long Grove Fire Protection District covered Wauconda’s fire station.

Daun said that with conditions being so dry, outside burning should be monitored very closely and a water source should be readily available.
