Construction workers alerted a homeowner and helped contain a fire that broke out in the garage of a home in Huntley before firefighters arrived Saturday afternoon, fire officials said.
The Huntley Fire Protection District responded around 12:03 p.m. Saturday to the 12100 block of Ehorn Road in Huntley for a reported structure fire.
Firefighters arrived on the scene six minutes later and found smoke and flames coming from a garage attached to a single-story house, fire officials said.
Fire crews quickly deployed hose lines and extinguished the fire before it could extend into the living quarters.
The damage was primarily contained to the garage and the house sustained minor smoke damage but remains habitable, fire officials said.
The homeowner was home at the time but unaware of the fire.
Construction workers in the area noticed the flames and attempted to extinguish the fire using buckets of water and a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived.
“Between their quick actions and the rapid response from firefighters, the house and its contents were saved,” fire officials said.
No injuries were reported and fire crews remained on the scene for approximately two hours to conduct overhaul and an investigation.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Huntley Fire Protection District.
