A bar and grill in downtown Lake Zurich is temporarily closed after a fire, which was discovered by police, damaged the establishment Sunday evening, fire officials said.

Lake Zurich Fire Chief David Pilgard said the Lake Zurich Police Department received a call for a burglar alarm at Scoreboard Bar and Grill, 84 North Old Rand Road, around 10 p.m. Sunday.

Officers arrived and observed and smelled smoke in the restaurant. The Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department was called to the scene.

Firefighters arrived and found smoke coming from the basement, Pilgard said.

Firefighters searched the building to ensure no one was inside. The building was closed at the time.

Crews located a fire in the basement in a storage area and quickly extinguished it, Pilgard said. No injuries were reported.

The fire appears to be electrical in nature and the fire department is working with the insurance company to conduct a thorough investigation.

The Lake Zurich Building and Zoning Department and the Lake Zurich Fire Rescue Department Fire Prevention Bureau were at the scene on Monday, Pilgard said.

Scoreboard Bar and Grill said they are temporarily closed for repairs and cleanup due to the fire.

“We are thankful this event occurred after our team left the building. Everyone is safe and sound,” the business said.

Pilgard said that while the fire was contained to the basement, the building sustained smoke damage throughout.

Fire crews remained on the scene for less than two hours. Nearby fire departments covered one of Lake Zurich’s fire stations during the incident.
