A teenage boy from Beach Park is facing charges after he led police on a pursuit at over 100 mph, which was captured on video, and crashed in Kenosha County.
The Pleasant Prairie Police Department said second-shift officers observed a vehicle speeding recklessly on Friday.
Dashcam video released Wednesday showed the red pickup truck traveling eastbound on 104th Street from Green Bay Road.
Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but it fled from them and a pursuit ensued.
The pursuing officer reported the pickup truck had “blacked out” and speeds were 107 mph, the video showed. At one point, the vehicle traveled into the opposite lane of traffic.
The vehicle crashed through a sign in a roundabout, nearly striking another vehicle, and then continued fleeing from officers.
The truck fled for a few more blocks before it lost control and came to a stop in the parking lot of a Chase bank, police said.
The driver, a 17-year-old Beach Park boy, exited the driver’s seat with his hands up and surrendered, the video showed.
Officers arrested him and cleared the vehicle to ensure no one else was inside.
The juvenile was charged with vehicle operator fleeing and eluding an officer and first-degree recklessly endangering safety.
“PPPD remains committed to curbing reckless and dangerous driving. This incident highlights the dangerous consequences of such behavior and our ongoing mission to keep our community safe from these reckless drivers,” the police department said.
