The National Weather Service says freezing rain is possible again in the Chicagoland area during a wintry mix system on Saturday that could cause icy conditions.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said wintry precipitation is expected in northern Illinois beginning Saturday morning.

Lake and McHenry counties could see the precipitation starting from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The wintry mix, which could include freezing drizzle, may bring up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation and a dusting to 0.20 inches of snow, the NWS said.

The main window for travel impacts is between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Saturday.

Temperatures may rise above freezing south of a Pontiac to Rensselaer line in the afternoon.

Motorists and residents should be cautious of hazardous travel, slippery roads and slippery surfaces.

The NWS said there remains some uncertainty with the weather system, unlike earlier in the week when forecast confidence was very high.

“Nevertheless, check road conditions before traveling tomorrow and stay up to date on the forecast,” the NWS said.

On Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, freezing rain resulted in icy roadways and surfaces throughout the Chicagoland area.
