A winter weather advisory has been issued for the second time in a week due to freezing rain that could impact the Chicagoland area on Saturday and cause icy conditions.
The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter weather advisory on Saturday morning for northern Illinois.
The advisory will go into effect at 11 a.m. Saturday and expire at 6 p.m. Saturday.
The Lake, McHenry, Boone, Winnebago, Cook, DuPage, Will, DeKalb, Kane, Ogle and Lee counties are included in the advisory.
The NWS said a wintry mix, primarily consisting of freezing drizzle, will develop northward across the area by beginning from the southwest and ending to the northeast.
Ice accumulations from a glaze to locally up to a tenth of an inch are possible, especially on untreated or elevated surfaces.
The ice may mix with snow of a dusting to half an inch, the NWS said.
Residents and motorists should be cautious of slick roadways and slippery surfaces, the NWS said. Slowed travel is urged.
Lake and McHenry counties could see the freezing drizzle beginning around 11 a.m. Saturday.
The winter weather advisory is the second of the week for the area due to icy conditions. On Wednesday evening into Thursday morning, freezing rain resulted in icy roadways and surfaces throughout the Chicagoland area.
