Six Flags Great America in Gurnee said a construction milestone was reached this week on the park’s newest dive coaster that will feature the world’s steepest drop.

A spokesperson for Six Flags said construction crews placed the final piece of track connecting the lift hill to the drop on the new coaster “Wrath of Rakshasa.”

Video released showed a crew from SkyHigh Coasters performing the keystone event which represents the highest peak of the ride at 180 feet.

Construction continues on the rest of the coaster before it opens to the public later this year.

Six Flags Great America first announced Wrath of Rakshasa in August.

Wrath of Rakshasa will be the steepest and most inverted dive coaster in the world.

“As you rise, the air grows thick with anticipation, and whispers of Rakshasa lurking within will send shivers down your spine,” the ride’s description says.

“Six Flags Great America continues to push the limits of innovation and thrills, as we introduce the world’s steepest drop with the most inversions on a dive coaster,” Park President John Krajnak said in August.

“Wrath of Rakshasa joins our already impressive lineup of record-breaking roller coasters and attractions at the park, demonstrating our commitment to delivering cutting-edge experiences for our guests,” Krajnak said.

Towering at 180 feet, the dive coaster will pause before plummeting to a 171-foot drop at a beyond-vertical 96 degrees that “feels like a descent into the abyss.”

Wrath of Rakshasa, a custom-designed coaster created by Bolliger & Mabillard, will send riders into a whirlwind of five inversions.

The ride will feature speeds of nearly 67 mph and 3,239 feet of steel track.

“Feel the adrenaline coursing through your veins as you navigate this sinister design, crafted to both thrill and terrify. Gather your bravest companions, and prepare to confront the demon that awaits,” the ride’s description says.

“Wrath of Rakshasa promises an unforgettable experience that will test your courage and leave you breathless,” the company added.

The ride will have three trains with three rows of passengers seated seven across.

It will be located in the County Fair section of the park but an exact opening date has not been announced yet.
