The weather service released snowfall totals for Wednesday and said Lake and McHenry counties saw the highest amount, as emergency crews continued responding to weather-related crashes Thursday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) released snowfall data on Thursday morning showing McHenry County and Boone County had the highest snowfall in the Chicagoland area.
5 inches of snow was reported in Capron in Boone County as well as 4.4 miles northeast of Harvard in McHenry County.
Bull Valley saw 3.9 inches, Spring Grove saw 3.8 inches, McHenry saw 3.2 inches, Woodstock saw 3 inches, Crystal Lake saw 2.8 inches, and Algonquin saw 2.5 inches.

In Lake County, 4.5 inches of snow was reported in Lake Villa, 4.2 inches in Highwood, 4 inches in Long Lake, 3.4 inches in Riverwoods and 3 inches in Mundelein.
The NWS issued a winter storm advisory on Wednesday in effect into early Thursday morning for northern Illinois.
Emergency crews were kept busy responding to many crashes on Interstate 94 in Lake County and just over the Wisconsin border in Kenosha County on Wednesday morning into the afternoon, including two that shut down the interstate.
The hazardous road conditions from the winter weather continued into Thursday morning.

The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts and Woodstock Fire/Rescue District both said they responded to separate vehicle crashes as road conditions remained slick following the snowfall.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded around 6:30 a.m. to the 18100 block of Kishwaukee Valley Road north of Marengo for a report of a vehicle crash with entrapment.
Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said crews arrived to find a vehicle rolled over on its side in a ditch with moderate damage.
The female driver had already exited the vehicle prior to first responders arriving.

Paramedics evaluated the driver at the scene but she refused additional medical treatment.
Fire personnel remained on the scene while law enforcement partially closed the roadway to ensure a safe working environment, Vucha said.
The Woodstock Fire/Rescue District then responded around 7:30 a.m. to the 300 block of Irving Avenue in Woodstock for a vehicle crash.
Woodstock Fire/Rescue District Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said crews located a three-vehicle crash with one vehicle off the roadway.
One person suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The other people involved were uninjured and refused medical evaluation.
“While the exact causes of the crashes remain under investigation by the respective law enforcement agencies, winter weather may have been a contributing factor,” Vucha said.
Fire officials said additional rounds of snow are expected over the coming days and drivers are urged to remain cautious and vigilant.
The NWS reported that another system of accumulating snow could impact portions of the area from late Friday afternoon into Friday evening.
Impacts to travel will be possible, including during the afternoon commute, with snowfall rates of up to one inch per hour and total accumulations of 2-4 inches near or north of Interstate 80, the NWS said.
