A resident was transported to the hospital after a fire caused significant damage to a garage and damaged an adjacent residence near Grayslake Wednesday afternoon.
The Grayslake Fire Protection District responded around 4:41 p.m. Wednesday to the 33000 block of North Sunset Avenue in unincorporated Grayslake for a report of a structure fire.
Grayslake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Ian Mandigo said crews arrived to find heavy fire showing from a single-story garage.
Firefighters conducted an exterior fire attack on the garage, which was detached from the residence.
Additional firefighters operated a second hose line to assist in bringing the fire under control, Mandigo said.
The fire was contained to the garage and did not spread to any residences.
Mandigo said the garage sustained significant damage and the adjacent home sustained minor radiant heat damage to the siding.
A resident was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no injuries reported to any firefighters.
The Grayslake Fire Protection District said they were assisted at the scene by the Round Lake, Gurnee, Libertyville and Countryside fire departments.
The Mundelein and Waukegan fire departments assisted by covering Grayslake’s fire stations.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Mandigo said.
