A 30-year-old man allegedly kicked a security officer in the chest, punched a police officer in the face and tried headbutting a second officer at a hospital in Harvard.

Ruben J. Mendez-Javier, 30, of Harvard, was charged with two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer or security officer, aggravated assault of a peace officer and resisting a peace officer.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Mendez-Javier kicked a hospital security staff member in the chest around 12:20 a.m. Sunday at Mercyhealth Hospital in Harvard.

The complaint said Mendez-Javier also punched a McHenry County sheriff’s deputy in the right side of the face with a closed fist.

Mendez-Javier additionally attempted to headbutt a Harvard police officer, the complaint said.

Mendez-Javier resisted arrest by stiffening his arms and legs and pulling his body away, preventing officers from placing handcuffs on him, the complaint said.

Officers transported Mendez-Javier to the McHenry County Jail following his arrest.

Mendez-Javier remains held in the jail pending an initial appearance court hearing on Monday morning.

The charges against Mendez-Javier are non-detainable under Illinois’ cashless bail law and he is likely to be released following the court hearing.
