A two-year-old boy has died after he was pulled unresponsive from a pool at a house in Bannockburn Monday afternoon, authorities said.
The Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District and Bannockburn Police Department responded around 2 p.m. Monday to the 1900 block of Half Day Road for a report of a drowning.
Firefighter-paramedics and police officers arrived at the single-family house in two minutes, according to a joint statement from the police and fire departments.
Emergency crews began resuscitative efforts on the child, who was unconscious and not breathing.
The statement said paramedics transported the child to Endeavor Health Highland Park Hospital where resuscitative efforts continued.
Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and the child was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
The Bannockburn Police Department said they are investigating the drowning but foul play is not suspected.
The Village of Bannockburn and Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District said they are asking for privacy for the family. “As any additional information becomes available, it will be provided,” the agencies said.
Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that the child was a two-year-old boy.
He was visiting a relative’s home when he drowned in an indoor pool, Newton said.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office has scheduled an autopsy on the child for Tuesday.
