The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the death of a corrections officer who served with the agency for 21 years before his death on Monday.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday afternoon that it was “with a heavy heart” to announce the death of Corrections Officer James “Jimmy” Udesen.

Udesen dedicated 21 years to the sheriff’s office, “always serving with a smile,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said he died on Monday following  a “courageous battle.”

Udesen was diagnosed with stage four glioblastoma brain cancer last spring.

Officials say Udesen will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, coach and friend who left a positive impact on the community.

“We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and all those that knew and loved him,” the sheriff’s office said.

Grafton Township Republicans said Udesen was a “dedicated” Grafton Township Precinct Committeeperson.
