A driver was transported to the hospital after they were left trapped in their car that drove off the roadway and struck a tree in Lake Forest Tuesday morning.

The Lake Forest Police Department, Lake Forest Fire Department and Lake Bluff Fire Department responded around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday to the area of Waukegan Road and North Shore Drive for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Firefighters arrived to find a single-vehicle crash off of the roadway into the trees, fire officials said.

The driver of the car, who was the sole occupant, was left trapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters spent approximately 10 minutes extricating them from the car, fire officials said.

Paramedics transported the driver to a local hospital. Fire officials said the extent of injuries was unknown.

PRO Towing responded to the scene to remove the heavily damaged car from the scene.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control and drive off of the roadway into the trees.

The Lake Forest Police Department, which is investigating the incident, did not immediately respond to a request for further information.
