Two brothers, who are convicted felons on parole, were arrested after one was wanted in a pursuit and a shooting in Waukegan and the other was found with a loaded gun.
Detectives from the Waukegan Police Department Criminal Investigations Division and Community Crimes Division arrested Jordan Hill, 20, of Waukegan, and Latrell Hill, 22, of Waukegan, on Wednesday.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain said Friday that the arrests were made following a domestic-related incident and pursuit that started in another jurisdiction and ended in Waukegan last week.
Neither suspect was arrested following the pursuit but detectives learned about another domestic dispute that occurred in Waukegan involving the brothers that led to a shot being fired inside their residence.
Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Colleen McConnell said the incident occurred around 8-9 p.m. Monday.
Latrell Hill got into an argument with his mother that evening about him having an active warrant.
The warrant stemmed from the pursuit and domestic incident, which began in Round Lake on February 11 and ended in Waukegan with Latrell Hill escaping officers.
The mother told Latrell Hill that he needed to turn himself in on the warrant, McConnell said.
McConnell said Latrell Hill brandished a gun and the mother feared that she was going to be shot. His brother, Jordan Hill, intervened and pushed Latrell Hill back.
Latrell Hill became upset and fired the gun into the ceiling of the home, McConnell said.
Officers arrested Latrell Hill on Wednesday and transported him to the Waukegan Police Department for his active warrant and for the second incident involving the shooting.
While at the police department, officers overheard Latrell Hill making a phone call to Jordan Hill telling his brother to get his stuff out of the home, McConnell said.
Detectives went to the area where the brothers reside and observed Jordan Hill approximately a block away.
Chastain said detectives searched Jordan Hill and found him in possession of a 9mm semi-automatic handgun loaded with a 30-round magazine.
The gun, which was stolen out of Chicago, was believed to be the same one used in the shooting during the domestic disturbance, Chastain said.
Jordan Hill was charged with felon in possession of a weapon and two counts of aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon.
Latrell Hill was charged with possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender, felon in possession of a weapon and reckless discharge of a firearm.
Both brothers are currently on parole for weapons offenses, Chastain said.
Jordan Hill was sentenced to four years for a 2022 case involving the possession of a machine gun in Lake County.
Latrell Hill was sentenced to two years for weapons violations in a 2023 case in Lake County.
The Illinois Department of Corrections was notified following their new arrests and issued warrants for both brothers for parole violations.
The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has filed petitions to detain both men pending trial. Jordan Hill appeared in court Thursday and Latrell Hill is scheduled to appear in court on Friday afternoon.
