A machine caught on fire and resulted in heavy smoke filling the building at a manufacturing plant in Crystal Lake Saturday morning, fire officials said.
The Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department responded around 10:29 a.m. Saturday to General Kinematics Corporation, 5050 Rickert Road, for a report of a machine fire.
Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department Battalion Chief Darrell Cook said firefighters arrived on the scene in five minutes.
The fire was reported to be growing with worsening smoke conditions inside the production facility.
The business had been evacuated and firefighters began fire suppression operations, Cook said.
The incident was upgraded to a working structure fire response to bring several fire departments to the scene.
Firefighters extinguished the fire in less than 30 minutes. Damage was estimated at $25,000.
“Fire suppression efforts prevented damage/loss to the structure,” Cook said.
Power and gas were disconnected at the property following the fire.
There were no injuries to any occupants of the building or firefighters.
Cook said the cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department.
