A man is in critical condition after a shooting that left him wounded and a second man wounded outside a funeral home in Waukegan Tuesday evening.
The Waukegan Fire Department and Waukegan Police Department responded around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday to The Memorial Chapel Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1521 Washington Street, for a shooting.
Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene following reports of shots fired and people shot.
Paramedics transported an adult male who had been shot to a local hospital in critical condition, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain.
Chastain said a second adult male had also been wounded and he has since been treated at the hospital and released.
Officers arrested a person of interest and they remain held in custody, Chastain said.
Detectives have not yet reviewed the case with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office for charges for the suspect.
Chastain said the investigation remains active. A heavy police presence was seen in the area as police investigated at the scene Tuesday evening.
Further details on the circumstances of the shooting, which occurred in the rear of the funeral home, were not released.
