A resident was transported to the hospital and a dog was rescued after a late-night fire left a house uninhabitable in Algonquin, fire officials said.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District responded around 11:35 p.m. Tuesday to the 900 block of Zange Drive in Algonquin for a report of a structure fire.

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Chief John Knebl said firefighters arrived in under three minutes and found a working house fire.

Flames were coming from the second-floor windows of a two-story, single-family home.

All occupants of the home had evacuated but a dog was still inside.

Knebl said firefighters went inside the home and initiated an attack on the fire, which was located on the second floor in the bathroom and hallway.

The fire was brought under control in 15 minutes. Additional fire crews remained on the scene completing overhaul, addressing hotspots and conducting an investigation.

Knebl said one of the occupants from the home was treated by paramedics and transported to Northwestern Medicine Huntley Hospital with minor burns.

Firefighters located the dog inside the home and it was safely placed in another room far away from the fire. “He was not liking the firefighters,” Knebl said.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District was assisted at the scene by the Algonquin Police Department and Huntley Fire Protection District.

The home is uninhabitable due to fire and smoke damage, Knebl said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
