A Zion woman is expected to survive after she suffered major injuries when she lost control of her car and crashed into a tree in Pleasant Prairie, police said.

The Pleasant Prairie Police Department and Pleasant Prairie Fire and Rescue Department early Sunday morning to Sheridan Road and 92nd Place for a vehicle crash.

Officers arrived to find a single-vehicle crash into a tree.

The driver, a 36-year-old Zion woman, suffered major injuries in the crash, police officials said.

A Flight for Life medical helicopter was called to transport the woman to Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, which is a Level 1 trauma center.

Police said the woman is expected to survive her injuries.

Pleasant Prairie Chief of Police David Smetana said an investigation showed the driver was operating under the influence and had open alcohol in the car.

She was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was cited for operating while intoxicated first offense, failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle and open intoxicants in a motor vehicle.
