Police were investigating after spent shell casings were found, prompting a soft lockdown at Huntley High School Friday morning, officials said.
The Huntley Police Department said they received information of a suspicious incident at Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road, around 7:48 a.m. Friday.
Weathered spent shell casings were turned in to the school resource officer.
The school was placed on a “hold in place and teach” out of an “abundance of caution” while police investigated.
According to Huntley Community School District 158, the hold in place and teach procedure is a protocol enacted when there is a situation inside the building that requires immediate action for everyone to remain in place.
“It is non-life threatening to the general population and to the school,” the district said.
A thorough investigation was conducted and police said they determined there was no credible threat to student or staff safety.
The hold in place and teach was lifted around 8:50 a.m. and normal school operations have resumed.
“Due to the age of the individuals involved, no further information can be released. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we completed the investigation,” police officials said.
“The security of our schools is a top priority and we thank you for trusting us to respond appropriately to keep them safe,” police officials added.
Huntley High School Principal Dr. Marcus Belin also said that police and school administration determined there was no threat to safety.
“Safety and security are our top priority. Thank you for your patience and support as we worked to investigate this situation as quickly as possible,” Belin said.
