Workers were evacuated after a fire started and filled a commercial printing plant with smoke in Grayslake Friday morning, fire officials said.
The Grayslake Fire District responded around 7:30 a.m. Friday to The Imagine Group, 333 North Barron Boulevard, for a report of a commercial structure fire.
Grayslake Fire District Battalion Chief Jason Brooks said firefighters were still responding when they were notified that the fire was possibly electrical-related.
Firefighters arrived to find an electrical panel on fire and the building was filled with smoke, Brooks said.
ComEd was notified and responded to the scene quickly to disconnect the power to the building.
Brooks said firefighters were then able to extinguish the fire and ventilate the smoke from the building.
The workers in the building were evacuated before the fire department arrived. No injuries were reported.
Brooks said the building’s power was shut off and most of the work staff was sent home.
The Libertyville, Round Lake, Fox Lake, Lake Bluff, Lake Villa, Newport and Antioch fire departments assisted at the scene and covered other calls in Grayslake during the incident.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Brooks said.
