Firefighters quickly extinguished a fire that started and left a room uninhabitable at a motel in Zion Friday morning, fire officials said.
The Zion Fire-Rescue Department responded around 8:30 a.m. Friday to the Shamrock Motel, 1713 Sheridan Road, for a report of a structure fire.
Zion Fire-Rescue Department Battalion Chief Jason Messick said fire crews arrived and found smoke showing from the building.
The smoke was coming from one of the rooms and firefighters found a fire in the bathroom.
A bathroom fan’s motor burned out and dropped down onto the plastic shower pad, which started the small fire, Messick said.
The fire did not extend to any other rooms in the building and it was extinguished quickly.
Messick said the room is currently uninhabitable. No one was in the room when the fire started.
No injuries were reported and fire crews remained on the scene for approximately 45 minutes, Messick said.
The Winthrop Harbor Fire Department assisted at the scene and other nearby fire departments were not needed.
