Douglas M. Enders Jr., 44, of McHenry.

A McHenry man has been sentenced to eight years in prison for the kidnapping of a woman who was attacked and locked in a shed for hours in McHenry County.

Douglas M. Enders Jr., 44, of McHenry, was charged in March 2024 with two counts of domestic battery with multiple prior convictions, two counts of aggravated domestic battery, kidnapping, violating an order of protection enhanced and unlawful restraint.

A criminal complaint said Enders caused bodily harm to a woman, with whom he was in a former relationship, around 12:30 a.m. on March 16, 2024, in McHenry County.

The complaint said Enders struck the woman with both a closed and open fist in the face several times, resulting in her suffering bruising, swelling, redness and cuts.

He also grabbed her left upper arm and left hand hard enough to cause bruising.

Enders pushed the woman to the ground, causing he to fall backwards over tools on the ground, which resulted in bruising to her back, the complaint said.

The complaint said Enders also strangled the woman around her neck three separate times, causing her to black out each time.

The complaint said Enders secretly confined the woman against her will inside of a shed for several hours and refused to allow her to leave.

The woman was eventually able to ask a gas station clerk to call 911 and Enders interfered, court documents said.

Enders had four or more prior convictions for domestic battery at the time of the incident and had recently been released from prison.

Enders also violated an order of protection the woman had obtained by contacting her by phone on four separate occasions, the complaint said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office investigated and obtained a warrant for Enders, who was taken into custody less than two weeks later.

He has been held in the jail since his arrest and recently entered into a negotiated plea deal with the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Court records show Enders pleaded guilty on Thursday to one count of kidnapping, a Class 2 felony, in exchange for an eight-year sentence in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

McHenry County Judge Mark Gerhardt approved the plea. The rest of the charges were dismissed.

Enders will be required to serve 50% of the sentence in accordance with truth-in-sentencing guidelines. He will also receive 335 days of credit for time served in the county jail and 33 days of credit for volunteer work.
