Fire officials say a fire destroyed a trailer after it became engulfed in flames and sent smoke billowing into the sky near Marengo Thursday evening.
The Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts responded around 5:43 p.m. Thursday to the area of Interstate 90 and Anthony Road in unincorporated Marengo for a report of a structure fire.
Multiple 911 calls were received by people driving along Interstate 90 reporting the fire, according to Marengo Fire and Rescue Districts Chief John Kimmel.
Firefighters responding saw a smoke header in the distance and the incident was upgraded.
Fire crews arrived to find a single wide trailer fully engulfed in flames in the 24000 block of Anthony Road, Kimmel said.
The trailer was full of items as it was used for storage.
The Belvidere, Union, Woodstock, Genoa-Kingston and Crystal Lake fire departments assisted Marengo.
Kimmel said firefighters worked for approximately an hour to an hour and a half to extinguish the fire, which was located on a residential property.
No injuries were reported to any residents or firefighters.
Kimmel said the cause of the fire has not been determined yet and remains under investigation.
