Six townhouses were damaged, two cats were rescued and a firefighter was injured during a three-alarm fire that caused $1 million in damage in Buffalo Grove Saturday afternoon.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded around 1:25 p.m. Saturday to the 300 block of Le Parc Circle for a report of smoke in a townhome.

Firefighters arrived on the scene within minutes and found fire on the second floor of a unit, fire officials said.

The incident was upgraded multiple times through the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS).

The alarm eventually went to the third alarm level through MABAS, bringing in numerous fire departments from throughout the area.

Fire officials said firefighters began an aggressive interior attack on the fire and began checking other townhome units.

They found smoke and evidence the fire had spread and was “well advanced” by the time firefighters arrived.

The fire was brought under control within approximately an hour.

No occupants were found in any of the six townhomes, fire officials said.

Two cats were found alive and were rescued by firefighters.

A firefighter reported a minor injury at the scene.

All of the six townhomes have been uninhabitable and the building department was notified. Damage was estimated at $950,000.

Firefighters remained at the scene into Saturday evening conducting overhaul operations and their investigation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Buffalo Grove Fire Department.
