Deputies rescued several people who were being chased by a knife-wielding man after he was rejected by a woman and became enraged near Round Lake Saturday evening.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:45 p.m. Saturday to the 35800 block of North Hillside Avenue in unincorporated Round Lake for multiple 911 calls reporting a man inside assaulting people.

Sheriff’s deputies arrived and they saw a victim jump from a second-story window to escape the assault, according to Lake County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli. The man was uninjured in the fall.

Deputies forced entry to the front door in order to gain access to the inside.

They saw several victims running from the offender, 29-year-old Juan A. Carranco-Salinas.

Sheriff’s deputies located Carranco-Salinas at the top of a stairway and he was armed with a knife, which had an approximate nine-inch blade.

Deputies gave Carranco-Salinas commands to drop the knife, which he eventually did but then advanced to a locked bedroom door containing several frightened victims, Covelli said.

Carranco-Salinas tried to gain entry into the bedroom and allegedly refused to comply with instructions from deputies to stop.

Sheriff’s deputies used a taser to subdue Carranco-Salinas and take him into custody.

Covelli said it was learned that Carranco-Salinas became enraged after a woman in the home rejected his sexual advances.

He offered her money for sexual favors but she continued to refuse and he became violent, Covelli said.

Others in the home attempted to restrain him but were unsuccessful. Covelli said Carranco-Salinas grabbed a kitchen knife and began chasing people inside the residence.

“Fortunately, nobody was stabbed or injured inside the home,” Covelli said.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and six counts of domestic battery.

Carranco-Salinas remains held at the Lake County Jail awaiting First Appearance Court.
