A Lake County Sheriff’s Office canine and a good Samaritan are both being credited with locating a missing elderly man considered endangered in Round Lake Park.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office was called on Friday afternoon to assist the Round Lake Park Police Department with a missing person.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Harris and Canine Zeus responded to the scene.
A man in his 70s who has memory challenges had been missing for approximately an hour.
The duo began tracking from the area where the man was last seen, sheriff’s officials said.
Zeus followed the man’s scent and their track led them to a nearby business where a good Samaritan had just located the man.
“Thanks to the teamwork of law enforcement, K9 Zeus’s incredible tracking skills, and a community member’s kindness, the man was found safe,” the sheriff’s office said.
Zeus graduated from training in late 2022 and was sworn in as one of the sheriff’s office’s numerous canine officers in February 2023.
Lake County youth enrolled in kindergarten through their senior year of high school were invited to participate in a naming contest that ultimately led to Zeus’ name being chosen.
