Firefighters extinguished a fire that burned four acres of brush near homes in rural Marengo Tuesday morning as officials urge caution with outdoor burning.
The Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts responded around 10:46 a.m. Tuesday to the 20400 block of Delks Drive in unincorporated Marengo for a report of a brush fire.
Marengo Fire & Rescue Districts Public Information Officer Alex Vucha said a homeowner called 911 to report the fire.
Firefighters arrived shortly after to find a fast-moving brush fire spreading through a retention pond and cattails.
Additional resources, including a brush truck and firefighters from the Union Fire Protection District, were requested to assist.

The fire was contained within 30 minutes and did not damage any surrounding homes or structures, Vucha said.
Approximately four acres of land burned. No injuries were reported.
“With dry ground conditions and dormant vegetation, the risk of outdoor fires spreading rapidly is heightened,” Vucha said.
Residents are urged to use “extreme caution” with outdoor burning and to ensure compliance with local burn regulations.
“Windy conditions, low humidity, and dry fuels can cause fires to spread quickly, increasing the potential for property damage and safety hazards,” Vucha added.
