A jury convicted a 23-year-old man of following a random woman and exposing himself to her while they were inside a fitness center in Woodstock.

Edel Castaneda-Carreno, 23, of Woodstock, was charged in October 2023 with public indecency by lewd exposure, a Class A misdemeanor.

A jury trial was held on Monday and the jury returned a guilty verdict.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred at Planet Fitness, 414 South Eastwood Drive in Woodstock, on October 30, 2023.

Prosecutors said Castaneda-Carreno followed a woman while exercising at the gym.

Castaneda-Carreno did not know the woman and followed her to the spa area of the gym, prosecutors said.

A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said Castaneda-Carreno exposed himself to the woman with the intent to satisfy his sexual desire.

The Woodstock Police Department responded and arrested Castaneda-Carreno the same morning.
