No injuries were reported during a three-hour brush fire at a 14-acre slough in Ingleside on Friday, authorities from the Fox Lake Fire Protection District said.

Fox Lake Fire Deputy Chief Larry Van Hoorlebeke said firefighters were dispatched to the 26000 block of Ingleside Shore Road at about 4:30 p.m. Friday for a reported grass fire.

Van Hoorlebeke said firefighters found acreages of slough in the area had caught fire and was spreading rapidly due to high winds.

A mutual-aid alarm was sounded, bringing in firefighters and additional resources from nearby departments to assist in bringing the fire under control, Van Hoorlebeke said.

Additional resources were strategically deployed to prevent the fire from igniting structures that buttress the slough on all sides, he said

“We did have a few issues where a deck caught fire along with the siding of a garage,” Van Hoorlebeke said. “However, those fires were put out immediately and only suffered minor damage.”

The fire was contained behind a commercial building on Route 59, south of the address where the fire first started, Van Hoorlebeke said.

He said no one was injured in the fire.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Van Hoorlebeke said.
