A 62-year-old man was killed after crashing a motorcycle he was driving on Route 83 near Route 137 Friday evening, authorities said.
Witnesses saw the 2022 Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle traveling at an extremely high rate of speed northbound on Route 83 when it failed to navigate a curve as it approached Route 137, Grayslake Police said in a news release.
Police and Grayslake Fire Protection District said in separate news releases they were called to the crash scene at about 5:20 p.m. Friday and found the driver and sole occupant had been ejected from motorcycle.
The driver was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where he later died, Gryaslake Police said in their release.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team responded to the scene to assist the Grayslake Police Department with investigating the crash.
Route 83 was shut down for approximately three hours while the crash was investigated.
The Grayslake Fire Protection District said in their news release that motorists should stay alert for motorcyclists on the roadway, adding riders are encouraged to wear appropriate protective gear, including helmets, to reduce the risk of serious injuries.
