A 68-year-old woman is identified by the Lake County Coroner as the person killed in a high-speed car crash in Zion late Saturday night.
The preliminary investigation shows Judith Kidder, formerly of Zion, was pronounced dead in the emergency room of Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan shortly after the crash at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said in a news release Monday.
Autopsy results show Kidder, who resided in Pleasant Prairie, Wisc., died from blunt force injuries to the head and neck as a result of the crash.
Lt. Derek Zaloudek of the Zion Police Department said a vehicle was stopped at a red traffic light in the northbound lanes of Green Bay Road when a second vehicle struck it from behind at high speeds.
Banek said Kidder was a passenger in the striking vehicle that hit the stopped car.
Kidder was transported from the scene of the crash via ambulance to Vista Medical Center East where she was pronounced dead, Banek said.
The driver of the striking vehicle was transported to the scene to an area hospital and released, Zaloudek said.
The driver of the other vehicle was not injured in the crash.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and Zion Police continue to investigate the crash, Zaloudek said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Zion Police Department and the Major Crash Assistance Team of Lake County.
