A Lake Forest man has been positively identified as the person struck by a train at about 12 p.m. Friday, Lake County Coroner officials said.

Preliminary results show William Morgan, 72,  died from blunt force injuries as a result of the train incident, Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said in a news release.

The Lake Forest Police Department, Metra Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded to the area of Everett Road and Waukegan Road for a report of a pedestrian struck by a train at about 12:03 p.m. on Friday, officials said.

Police said at the time a northbound Canadian Pacific Kansas City Southern freight train traveling from Bensenville, to Portage, Wisconsin struck the man.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The incident happened on the east side of the train tracks near the Fifth Third Bank.

This railroad also shares service with the Metra Milwaukee District North and the Amtrak Hiawatha Lines.

Everett Road between Telegraph and Waukegan (Rt 43) and Conway Road between Telegraph and Waukegan (Rt 43) were closed for several hours while the incident was investigated.

All inbound and outbound trains were halted Friday near Lake Forest due to the pedestrian crash.

Inbound and outbound trains resumed moving at restricted speed around 1:20 p.m., Metra said, but added that “extensive” delays were possible.

On Monday, Lake County Coroner officials performed an autopsy on Morgan, Banek said. 

The incident remains under investigation by the Lake Forest Police Department, Metra Police, and investigators with Canadian Pacific Kansas City, Banek said.
