Buffalo Grove officials said a pre-teen who went missing late Wednesday has been found safe.
Buffalo Grove Communications Director Molly Gillespie said in a news release that Jonathan Shin, 12, was located at about 4:50 a.m. Thursday on the border of Buffalo Grove and Wheeling at Lake Cook Road.
Gillespie said Shin there was no evidence of anything criminal taking place and the boy had been returned to his family.
Buffalo Grove Police Department announced the boy was missing late Wednesday and was seeking help from the public to find him.
Police said Shin was last seen leaving his residence on Newton Court to walk the family dog, a white toy poodle, at about 8 p.m. Wednesday.
The dog was returned to the home by a neighbor after being found loose, police said.
The dog returning home by itself prompted a search for the boy.
Police said in the news release Shin is 5-foot tall and approximately 90 pounds, and last seen wearing brown-framed glasses, a tan/white Nike sweatshirt and black sweatpants.
In addition, the boy left his cell phone at home.
Police blanketed social media with flyers seeking the missing boy and performed an investigation into his whereabouts.
In the follow-up release after the boy was found, police said they wished to extend their gratitude to the Buffalo Grove and the extended community for the outpouring of support in sharing the missing person notice and helping amplify search efforts.
