A Crystal Lake man was sentenced to a total of 36 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13 from 2017 to 2019.
Richard Rowland, 60, was officially sentenced by McHenry County Judge Tiffany Davis to 12 years in prison for each of the three Class X counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a minor under the age of 13.
The sentences will run consecutively, court records show.
Rowland, formerly of Crystal Lake, Illinois, was found guilty of the criminal counts after a jury trial ended on October 31, 2024.
Rowland was facing up to 180 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, authorities said.
Former McHenry County State’s Attorney Patrick Kenneally was in charge of the office when the trial took place in October.
He said in a news release at the time that the Crystal Lake Police Department began investigating a delayed report of the sexual assault of a child on March 18, 2024.
Evidence proved at trial showed Rowland committed multiple acts of sexual penetration against a female minor child during a time in which the child was under 13 years between June 1, 2017, and February 1, 2019, Kenneally said.
Rowland is required to serve at least 85 percent of the prison sentence.
He will receive credit for spending just over one one year in McHenry County Jail.
