An investigation is underway after a 28-year-old woman was found dead inside a house in Waukegan, prompting heavy police activity Sunday evening.
The Waukegan Police Department responded to a home in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue on Sunday evening.
Residents in the area reported heavy police activity near 9th Street and Lincoln Avenue, with the street being closed.
Officers discovered a woman unresponsive and pronounced dead in the home, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain.
Chastain said it is “unclear” who first found the woman and reported it. Officers responded to the home after it was brought to their attention.
Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton said the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified around 6:55 p.m. and responded to the scene.
The coroner’s office took possession of the 28-year-old woman, whose identity has not yet been released.
An autopsy was performed on her on Monday and the results are pending further scientific studies, Newton said.
Chastain said it is possible the woman’s death was the result of an overdose but a determination has not been made and the case remains under active investigation.
