Three children and an adult were hospitalized after a two-vehicle, t-bone crash — caused by a driver failing to yield at a stop sign — resulted in a car rolling over near Marengo.

The Marengo Fire/Rescue Districts and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 5:01 p.m. Thursday to the 3500 block of County Line Road in unincorporated Marengo for a report of a vehicle crash with injuries.

The Boone County Fire Protection District #2 and the Boone County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.

The crash occurred at Marengo Road and County Line Road on the border of McHenry County and Boone County.

The crash impact occurred in Boone County, with the two vehicles coming to rest on the McHenry County side.

Fire crews arrived to find a two-vehicle crash with heavy damage.

No one was trapped in the wreckage but a medical helicopter was requested to the scene by first responders. It was later canceled.

A crash report obtained by Lake and McHenry County Scanner said the crash involved a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox and a 2015 GMC Terrain.

The Chevrolet, driven by a 16-year-old Capron boy, was traveling southbound on County Line Road approaching Marengo Road, the report said.

The GMC, driven by a 25-year-old Rockford woman, was traveling eastbound on Marengo Road approaching County Line Road.

The report said the Chevrolet disregarded the stop sign and caused the front-end, t-bone-style collision with the GMC, which did not have a stop sign.

The Chevrolet traveled off of the roadway and rolled over. The crash was caught on a surveillance video.

One of the tires from the Chevrolet popped out and rolled over to the property fence on the corner of the intersection, causing damage to the fence.

The 16-year-old driver of the Chevrolet was cited for failing to yield to the right of way, the report said.

Both drivers were transported by paramedics to the hospital. Two child passengers in the Chevrolet, a 15-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, were also transported to the hospital.

All of the victims involved suffered non-life-threatening injuries, the report said.
