The coroner has released the identity of a 28-year-old woman whose family received a photo of her body, prompting officers to find her dead inside a house in Waukegan Sunday.

The Waukegan Police Department responded to a home in the 900 block of Lincoln Avenue on Sunday evening.

Residents in the area reported heavy police activity near 9th Street and Lincoln Avenue, with the street being closed.

Officers discovered a woman unresponsive and she was pronounced dead in the home, according to Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain.

Chastain said it is “unclear” who first found the woman and reported it.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said the Lake County Coroner’s Office was notified around 6:55 p.m. and responded to the scene. The coroner’s office took possession of the woman.

Banek identified her on Wednesday as Amia Moore, 28, of Beach Park.

An autopsy was performed on her on Monday and the results are pending further scientific studies, Banek said.

The woman’s sister, Erin Moore, told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that Amia was “with people she should not have trusted.”

“My sister thought everyone was her friend,” she said.

Other people were with Amia Moore in the house at the time and someone sent a photo of the unresponsive woman to Moore’s cousin, Erin Moore said.

The people who were with Amia Moore did not call for help and left her alone.

Her sister said the family notified the police after receiving the photo and family members and officers went to the location to find her deceased.

Chastain said it is possible the woman’s death was the result of an overdose but a determination has not been made and the case remains under active investigation.
