The coroner has released the identity of a Waukegan woman who died after she turned in front of another vehicle, causing a crash that resulted in significant damage in Gurnee.
The Gurnee Police Department and Gurnee Fire Department responded around 2:20 p.m. Friday to the intersection of Grand Avenue and 1st Street in Gurnee for a vehicle crash with injuries.
Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said officers found two vehicles with significant damage.
The Subaru Forester and BMW 340i Series both had their airbags deployed.
The driver of the Subaru, a 74-year-old Waukegan woman, appeared to be trapped inside her vehicle but was responsive, Gaylor said.
Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton identified the woman as Jane Kennedy, 74, of Waukegan.
The driver of the BMW, a 20-year-old Ingleside man, reported experiencing pain in his leg.
A preliminary investigation showed that the BMW was traveling westbound on Route 132 approaching 1st Street.
Gaylor said the Subaru, which was traveling eastbound on Grand Avenue, attempted to turn left onto 1st Street and turned directly in front of the BMW.
Kennedy was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center by the Gurnee Fire Department.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office said Kennedy was pronounced dead in the intensive care unit on Saturday evening.
The driver of the BMW was treated at the scene but was not seriously injured, Gaylor said.
An autopsy performed on Kennedy showed she died from complications of blunt force injuries in a vehicle crash, Newton said.
The circumstances of the crash are being investigated by the Gurnee Police Department.
