A man was hospitalized with serious injuries after police say he crashed his electric bike into an SUV while crossing the street in Lake Forest.

The Lake Forest Police Department and Lake Forest Fire Department responded around 4:19 p.m. Friday to the area of Old Elm Road and Route 41 for a vehicle crash with injuries.

Lake Forest Deputy Police Chief Kevin Zelk said the crash involved an electric bike and an SUV.

An adult male was riding on the e-bike northbound on the Skokie Valley Bike Path at Old Elm Road.

The rider attempted to cross Old Elm Road and struck the side of an SUV, which was traveling westbound, Zelk said.

The bike rider suffered serious injuries and was transported to Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital by ambulance.

Police shut down Old Elm Road between Route 41 and Ridge Road for a crash investigation.
