A 24-year-old Riverwoods man, who was a Stevenson High School graduate, has been identified after he died in a motorcycle crash, with his family remembering him for being “kind-hearted.”
The Northfield Police Department and Northfield Fire-Rescue Department responded around 10:23 p.m. Friday to the 2200 block of Willow Road in Northfield for a report of a crash with injuries.
Northfield Police Department Commander Thomas Hanus said the crash involved a single-vehicle, a motorcycle, and occurred in the eastbound lanes.
A preliminary investigation showed that a three-wheeled motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Willow Road near Old Willow Road and Somerset Lane.
The motorcycle crashed into the center median curb while negotiating a curve in the roadway, Hanus said.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the driver as Aaron T. Orman, 24, of Riverwoods.
The motorcycle then struck an Illinois Department of Transportation sign at the intersection.
Hanus said Orman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Willow Road was shut down between Sunset Ridge Road and Wagner Road for approximately nine hours during the initial investigation before being reopened around 8 a.m. Saturday.
The North Regional Major Crash Assistance Team (NORTAF MCAT) is assisting the Northfield Police Department in the investigation.
Orman was described by his family as a “loving, kind-hearted, and compassionate” person who would “always lend a helping hand to anyone in need.”
“He had a superior work ethic, even starting his own business with his best friend, David Davydov, and always persevered with dedication and discipline at anything he did. He was eager to be a leader and to learn new crafts such as working on cars, selling real estate, and coordinating the patient transportation department for a local hospital,” an obituary for Orman said.
“Aaron will always be remembered for his outgoing and selfless personality, always ‘marching to the beat of his own drum.’ He will be deeply missed by all who knew him,” the obituary said.
Orman was a 2019 graduate of Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire.
A visitation is set for Friday afternoon at Central Chapel in Chicago and a funeral service is scheduled for Saturday morning at St. Symphorosa Church in Chicago.
Hanus said the cause of the crash remains under investigation and further information will be released as it becomes available.
