An officer was transported to the hospital after a high-speed chase ended with the suspect vehicle losing control and crashing off the roadway in Winthrop Harbor.

The incident happened around 6:05 p.m. Wednesday at Sheridan Road and Russell Road.

The Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, Police Department was pursuing a vehicle reportedly wanted in an armed robbery.

A video captured by a bystander appeared to show a Winthrop Harbor police officer attempting to deploy spike strips at the intersection as the chase proceeded southbound on Sheridan Road past the border into Illinois.

The driver lost control of the vehicle right after passing by the officer. It is unclear if the vehicle’s tires made contact with the deflation device or not.

Fire officials said the car crashed into a tree and an electrical pole on the east side of Sheridan Road south of Russell Road.
