A candidate who ran for a position on the Crystal Lake-based Community High School District 155 board in this week’s consolidated election has been arrested for violating an order of protection.
Walter A. Moist IV, 46, of Crystal Lake, was charged with violating an order of protection, a Class A misdemeanor.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court alleges Moist picked up his son from the parking lot of the Village Squire, 4818 Northwest Highway in Crystal Lake, around 2:30 p.m. on March 26.
The complaint said Moist did so while violating an order of protection that barred him from being at the place of employment of the order of protection petitioner while she is present there.
Court records show a Crystal Lake woman, who was in a relationship with Moist, obtained the order of protection in 2023.
Moist was arrested on Friday and released from the McHenry County Jail with pre-trial conditions.
Prosecutors did not file a petition to detain him and McHenry County Judge Cynthia Lamb ordered Moist to follow the order of protection, not possess weapons and return for his next court appearance on May 1.
Moist was one of seven candidates to run for a position on the Crystal Lake-based Community High School District #155 board in the April 1 consolidated election.
Moist received the least amount of votes out of all of the candidates. He received 1,292 votes out of 29,272 total votes, according to unofficial results from the McHenry County Clerk’s Office.
Court records show Moist is a convicted felon and has prior convictions in cases where he was charged with filing a false child abuse report, retail theft and drug possession.
Moist has at least 73 cases in McHenry County alone dating back to 1998 for ordinance violations, traffic violations, misdemeanors and felonies.
