Authorities say a driver was left trapped and seriously injured, requiring him to be flown to the hospital, following a single-vehicle crash into trees in Bull Valley Sunday evening.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District and McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded around 8:50 p.m. Sunday to the 1200 block of Cherry Valley Road in Bull Valley for a report of a vehicle crash.
Emergency radio traffic indicated that an automatic crash detection alert was received in the area from a vehicle.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived first and found a vehicle crash off the roadway.
The car was reportedly between two trees and the driver was trapped inside.
McHenry Township Fire Protection District Acting Battalion Chief Chris Kozel said fire crews arrived at the scene in seven minutes.
First responders immediately initiated advanced life support on a victim trapped inside a sedan, Kozel said.
Multiple crews used specialized rescue equipment to free the driver from the wreckage in 15 minutes.
Fire officials said the driver was the sole occupant of the sedan and no other vehicles were involved.
Kozel said paramedics transported the victim to the LifeNet helipad base at Northwestern Medicine Hospital in McHenry.
Paramedics transferred the victim to the LifeNet medical helicopter, which flew the driver to a Level 1 trauma center for treatment of serious injuries.
Cherry Valley Road was shut down while law enforcement conducted a crash investigation.
The sheriff’s office said the crash investigation is being led by the Bull Valley Police Department, which did not immediately respond to a request for information.
