Police say a woman was arrested in Gurnee after she was wanted for attempted murder after allegedly critically wounding a man in a shooting in Chicago.
The Chicago Police Department said a shooting occurred in the 4000 block of West Grenshaw Street in the Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago around 3 a.m. on Saturday.
Police said a 33-year-old man was inside a residential building when he was approached by an unknown offender.
The suspect produced a firearm and fired shots at the victim.
The male victim suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was transported by ambulance to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was listed in critical condition, police said.
Chicago police officers and a SWAT team responded to the scene.
They learned the offender had already fled the area and Area Four detectives responded to investigate.
Investigators identified the gunman as Keithina Brisco Edwards, 24, who resides on the same block where the shooting occurred.
Chicago police officials said she was arrested by the Chicago Police Department just hours later, around 11:50 a.m. Saturday, in the 100 block of O’Plaine Road in Gurnee.
Gurnee Police Department Public Information Officer Shawn Gaylor said Edwards was first captured in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and brought to the Gurnee Police Department.
Chicago police investigators responded to Gurnee and took custody of Edwards. She was taken back to Chicago and charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, a Class X felony.
Edwards was scheduled to appear for a detention hearing on Tuesday.
