Residents were able to safely evacuate but were displaced after a fire left their house uninhabitable in McHenry early Tuesday morning, fire officials said.
The McHenry Township Fire Protection District responded around 3:10 a.m. Tuesday to the 4800 block of West Bonner Drive in McHenry for a report of a structure fire.
McHenry Township Fire Protection District Acting Battalion Chief David Huemann said firefighters arrived on the scene within five minutes.
They discovered smoke coming from the rear of a single-story residence.
Fire crews confirmed that all residents had safely evacuated the home prior to their arrival, Huemann said.
Firefighters deployed a hose line to the rear of the home to extinguish the fire and also conducted a search inside the home.
Huemann said the exterior fire was brought under control within 10 minutes.
No firefighters or residents were injured and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
The home was deemed uninhabitable due to electricity and gas being shut off.
The residents are being assisted by the American Red Cross, Huemann said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.
