A 26-year-old man was taken into custody after he was wanted for allegedly fleeing from the police at 132 mph during an attempted traffic stop near McHenry.
Quade D. Wilfinger, 26, of McHenry, was charged with one count of aggravated fleeing to elude police at more than 21 mph, a Class 4 felony.
A criminal complaint filed in McHenry County Circuit Court said a McHenry County sheriff’s deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop around 12:45 a.m. on August 17.
The deputy was attempting to stop a vehicle that committed multiple traffic offenses while traveling northbound on Route 31 from Route 176 in Crystal Lake.
The complaint said the deputy attempted to conduct the stop on Route 31 at Gracy Road in Prairie Grove and he activated his emergency lights on his marked squad car.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Wilfinger, accelerated northbound on Route 31 from Gracy Road toward McHenry at 132 mph, which was registered by the deputy’s radar, the complaint said.
The complaint said Wilfinger successfully evaded the stop. An arrest warrant was issued for him on Friday.
Wilfinger was taken into the custody of the McHenry County Jail on Wednesday morning.
The charge is non-detainable under Illinois’ cashless bail law and Wilfinger was released following an initial appearance court hearing on Wednesday.
McHenry County Judge Cynthia Lamb ordered Wilfinger not to leave the state without court permission, not to possess dangerous weapons and to be placed on pre-trial supervision.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on May 8 for a status of preliminary hearing.
