The Major Crime Scene Unit was called after a woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances, leading to crime scene tape blocking off a home in Waukegan on Thursday.
The Waukegan Police Department on Thursday afternoon discovered a deceased person in the 700 block of Yeoman Street in Waukegan.
The police department’s Major Crime Scene Unit and Criminal Investigation Division were called to the scene along with patrol officers.
Waukegan Deputy Police Chief Scott Chastain said an autopsy was scheduled for Friday on the subject.
Chastain said further information is not being released by the police department until likely next week due to the active investigation.
He said that detectives will also be conferring with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office on the case.
Lake County Chief Deputy Coroner Steve Newton confirmed his office responded to the scene around 5 p.m. and took possession of a “deceased individual.”
The coroner’s office scheduled an autopsy for Friday afternoon and the subject has since been positively identified.
The identity of the subject has not been publicly released but Newton said the deceased was an adult female.
Newton said further information, such as her cause and manner of death, was not immediately available.
Chastain said he could not say whether the body was discovered inside or outside the house, which is located north of Grand Avenue on Yeoman Street.
Detectives were following up on a lead when they discovered the deceased woman.
Crime scene tape was placed around the property of a single-family home as investigators remained at the scene for hours into the evening.
A source told Lake and McHenry County Scanner that there are suspicious circumstances in the case.
Chastain said that an outside local agency — not ICE or any other federal agency — is also involved in the investigation. He said he could not disclose yet which agency is involved.
