Two firefighters were injured while battling a fire that caused significant damage to a house, leaving it uninhabitable, in Round Lake Monday evening, fire officials said.
The Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District responded around 7:15 p.m. Monday to the 600 block of West Nippersink Road in Round Lake for a report of a structure fire.
Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District Battalion Chief Charley Mitchell said firefighters arrived within two minutes of receiving the call.
They found heavy flames coming from the rear and sides of a single-family home.
Initial reports indicated the fire started on the exterior deck of the house before spreading up the back wall and into the home, Mitchell said.
Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 30 minutes.
Fire crews remained on the scene for an additional three hours due to the significant damage as they worked to locate and extinguish remaining hidden fires.
Mitchell said the cause of the fire remains under investigation but does not appear suspicious in nature.
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries but no residents were injured in the blaze.
The home sustained heavy damage and a damage estimate was not immediately available.
The Grayslake, Fox Lake, Wauconda, Libertyville and Gurnee fire departments assisted at the scene.
The McHenry, Lake Zurich and Antioch fire departments covered Round Lake’s fire stations and responded to other calls during the incident.
